A Powerful Performance in Black History

I wanted to start my final Black History Month blog entry with heartfelt gratitude for your response to my posts about my parents. Sharing their story was very personal for me, and I’m honored that they resonated so well with each of you that took time to like, comment, and share it. It blessed me. Those two were so good on so many levels, and now I am inspired to ensure my children have a more formal record of who their grandparents were. I think it was my good friend, Raquel, who reminded me that it’s a part of their story, too. We all have a story, and I certainly want to ensure that they know theirs.

For today’s blog, I also wanted to highlight a duo whose powerful performance has stuck with me through the years. If you have not seen this performance by the Nicholas brothers, you’re in for a treat. Even if you have, I’m telling you: it never gets old! If this is not a master class in performance, nothing is. Just when you think they have done everything they can possibly do, they top the last move. The way they slide into the end is just so smooth – pure greatness in my mind! I heard an interview with one of them some years ago sharing that they did this in one take. I’m glad we have a record of this! I hope it not only entertains you, but inspires you to make a record of your moments of excellence.

And now Ladies and Gentleman, The Nicholas Brothers:

Dr. Lisa

Our Theme Song has to be “Stormy Weather” by Lena Horne. This was the title of the movie in which The Nicholas Brothers performed this great piece.

They were amazing! I can remember watching that movie with my mom. She used to cheer whenever she saw them perform.

Have watched this many, many times marveling at their audacity and simultaneous mastery of the complicated moves and connection with the audience – they never got lost inside the performance. It belongs in ALL movie highlight reels. Kudos to the camera operators, too, who kept up with them!
