Staying Inspired Through These Times

Friends,

With today’s blog, you will note I did not lead with a question. It is remarkable that in a span of a few weeks, our lives are totally different. With that difference, it makes sense to suspend the normal podcasts and “Ask Lisa” blogs and resume when we are not in a battle with the Coronavirus.

Instead, I invite you to harness your power this week by choosing a theme song. Every heroine/hero needs a good theme song that, in just a few notes, reminds us of who she is and what she is capable of. I can hear in my head the first few bars of Wonder Woman with a small chorus calling out her name. We all recognized who she was and knew she would save the day.

Choose a song to keep you inspired through this period of uncertainty. Let it inspire you to dig deep when needed and to know always that everything is going to work out.

You know me by now – I am super old school. One of my go-to theme songs over the years has been “Irons in the Fire” by Teena Marie. This feels right for me right now because she addresses the spiritual connection and gives a to-do list – “I’ve got to keep my irons in the fire”. See the lyrics below.

Your turn. You choose a song that speaks to where you are right now and lifts you. Share what you chose and why. We can collectively create a playlist of theme music!

Take care of yourselves!

Dr. Lisa

Irons in the Fire

People say I’ve got my hands in too many things
Keeping time with paupers just as well as kings
I toss my hat up to the silver sky
And then I sigh
Look at all the blessings in my life
Here I am your Piscean holocaust
Born in Venice, Harlem with some sweet and sour sauce

I close my eyes and still somehow I feel
You’re here with me
And you are such a blessing in my life
Here I am, I’m just a fragment of my God
Heavenly father, hear me

Sometimes life gets so hard
With you as my desire
Spirit’s gonna build me higher
I’ve got to keep my irons in the fire
Got to keep my irons in the fire

Comment for March 27, 2020 blog:

I always get strength by thinking of my loved ones who have passed on. I feel blessed to have had them in my life so it motivates me to always do the best I can. My theme song is fairly new, “Memories” by Maroon 5. My favorite line is “the memories bring back you.”

    Excerpt:
“There’s a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
‘Cause I can’t reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah

    Everybody hurts sometimes
    Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy
    But everything gon’ be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy

Here’s to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not
‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
    Of everything we’ve been through
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you”
    By Maroon 5, “Memories”

I love these lyrics! I am going have to listen to the song. My experience of you is exactly that. you always offer your best. It’s nice to know from where that effort is inspired.
